Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Civil/Environmental Engineer to support an expanding portfolio of Energy Transition projects in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern regions of the United States with a focus on Virginia. This position would encompass multiple sectors, including oil and gas, renewable energies, linear utilities, and rail and transit. Tasks may include site layouts, grading, hydraulic modeling, utility design, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control design. You will have the ability to think in an innovative and entrepreneurial manner to deliver the very best solutions to our clients. The position will require a candidate to work collaboratively with a diverse team and have the capacity to balance varying priorities. While the location of this position is flexible, and remote work opportunities are available, the ideal candidate would be located near one of the following cities: Lexington or Louisville, Kentucky; Hanover, Maryland; Buffalo, Syracuse, or Albany, New York; Pittsburgh, or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Richmond or Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and follows a hybrid work structure. A successful candidate can expect to work remotely, from the office, or in the field, as needed, based on demands of project and client teams. Position could include up to 25% travel.

Role accountabilities:

As a Civil/Environmental Engineer, you will apply your technical knowledge to work with local, national, and global technical and client teams to provide high quality deliverables to support planning, design, and permitting for renewable energy, oil and gas, linear utilities, and rail clients.

• Develop engineering designs for permitting or construction purposes, including design drawings and details, technical specifications, presentations, cost estimates, land development planning, hydraulic modeling/calculations, erosion and sediment control evaluations and layout, and earthwork site design
• Use your technical writing and communications skills to develop regulatory permit application packages, technical documents and reports, work plans, memoranda, and other environmental documents to support design/permitting activities
• Field opportunities, such as, contractor oversight, site walk, site inspections
• Understanding of Annual Standards and Specifications
• Office-based support of active construction projects (e.g., submittal reviews, field change documentation, site layout information)
• Candidates must demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. The candidate will have a strong desire to pursue a career in the civil and/or environmental engineering sector

Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience with the Virginia Erosion and Stormwater Management Regulation from the Virginia Administrative Code (9VAC25-875-10 et seq) and the technical requirements and permitting including Virginia Pollution Discharge Elimination System (VPDES) Permit for Discharges of Stormwater from Construction Activities, Notice-of-Terminations (NOTs), Hydrologic and Hydraulic (H&H) Analysis, Erosion and Sediment Control Best Management Practices (BMPs), and Stormwater Management BMPs.

• Licensed Professional Engineer, preferably in Virginia or willingness to obtain via reciprocity, with a minimum of five years of professional experience in the civil/environmental field. Familiarity with AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, or other terrain modeling design software and experience with hydrologic/hydraulic modeling (e.g., HydroCAD, WinTR-55, PondPack, HEC-RAS)
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering or closely related field. Experience leading civil or environmental projects, including land development, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater permitting design teams

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control
• Virginia Department of Environmental Quality training and certifications for any of the following: Responsible Land Disturber (RLD), Qualified Person (QP), Erosion and Sediment Control plan reviewer, inspector, or program administrator, and Stormwater Management plan reviewer, inspector, or program administrator
• Trainings and certification for Inspection in Stormwater Management and Erosion and Sediment Control in Virginia
• PE License in Virginia with 8-10+ years of experience in civil/environmental engineering projects, including task/project management experience

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $70,800 - $106,200. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
